Huntingburg Youth Baseball League, Inc.
T-Ball League Rules
Est. 2002
Mission Statement - To provide a safe and fun instructional league for 5 & 6 year old boys and girls to learn the basics of baseball, including hitting off a tee, base running, catching, and throwing.
1. 9-10 players per team.
2. Games will last 45 minutes.
3. All players will bat each inning, no out limit. Outs should be called and enforced.
4. All players will field each inning.
5. No score will be kept. The object of the game is not to win or lose but to enjoy playing it. Winning should not be emphasized. Learning and improving a child’s skill level will make them successful.
6. All players will hit off a tee.
7. Defensive team can have three coaches (or helpers) on the field at one time.
8. Offensive team can have four coaches (or helpers) on the field at one time. This includes one at 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, and one putting the ball on the tee.
9. Infield positions are pitcher’s mound, 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, and shortstop. All other players should be beyond the baseline near the edge of the grass. Coaches should put players at proper positions, not just randomly scatter kids on the infield.
10. Only one player on the pitchers mound is allowed.
11. Player in the pitching position must stay behind the pitching line until batter has made contact with the ball.
12. Coaches are not to touch the ball while it is in play.
13. Each team will be given a tee and a dozen balls for practice. Softer balls will be used.
14. Practices on the HYBL field must be scheduled in advance during practice season.
15. T-Ball is not a “one base at a time” game. If batted ball reaches the grass, batter/runner may deserve two bases. Coaches, use your judgement with base running. We do not want the T-Ball League to suffer from the “merry-go-round” effect.
16. Seven year old girls will be given the option to play in the T-Ball League or the Rookie League. Players cannot switch leagues mid-way through the season.
17. The head coach is responsible for maintaining order and keeping players seated in the dugout during games. An assistant coach or parent should be assigned to the dugout.
18. For safety reasons, players should not swing bats outside the fenced areas of the field and batting cage.
